Every year the Sverdlovsk Region increases its presence in the market of international creative industries. The most promising and demanded area in foreign markets is the creation of digital content: the music industry, audiovisual content, virtual and augmented reality technologies and film production. Special attention in the region is paid to the development of musical art and creative clusters. A set of measures is being actively implemented to promote the musical industry as an independent industry contributing a lot to the region's economy; such music brands as the Ural Rock Club and Ural Music Night are supported.

Major infrastructure projects in the field of culture are: the construction of the new Philharmonic Concert Hall designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and the opening of the Hermitage-Ural museum building.

The flagship event in the field of contemporary art not only in the region but also in Russia is the Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art, that will be held Ekaterinburg in 2021 for the sixth time with the motto "TA time to embrace and to refrain from embracing". The Ural Biennial is the only Russian biennial that is the part of the International Biennial Association.

The only film studio outside Moscow and St. Petersburg is located in Ekaterinburg. Here the documentary and feature films are being produced. Famous Soviet and Russian directors used to work at the Sverdlovsk Film Studios at different times: Yaropolk Lapshin, Vladimir Makeranets, Vladimir Khotinenko, Alexey Fedorchenko, Alexey Balabanov, Kirill Kotelnikov and others.
The Ural masters of the art of decoration created an exact copy of the theatrical award specially for the Presentation Center of the Sverdlovsk Region.

The Ural theaters are awarded with several dozen Golden Masks, the leaders in terms of the number of nominations are the State Opera and Ballet Theater, the Sverdlovsk Musical Comedy Theater and the Provincial Dances Theater of Contemporary Dance. Also, awards of the prestigious Venice Film Festival, Nika and Golden Eagle film festivals, theatrical festival named after V.I. Stanislavsky and many others were sent to the Urals many times.
Nowadays, Ekaterinburg is one of the leading theater centers in Russia: the city ranks third in terms of the number of theaters, there are 24 of them. Guest performances of the Kolyada Theater, Puppet Theater and Musical Comedy Theater are the cultural event not only in the Russian cities, bu in the cities abroad. Performances by the Ural playwrights are staged in the leading theaters of the country and the world.
